Contemplating Slow Fragrance and Whisky

Taking time to consider……..SLOW. The very idea of it is rooted in the creation of the Kingdom Scotland fragrances – and this is inspired from our founder’s prolific career in the aromatic world of whisky, Scotland’s native spirit.

In whisky, it all starts with the selection of ingredients, the grain, the water and the yeast. The master distiller takes their time to select carefully. Then distillation. Distillation is an ancient process, when time was not a pressing matter. To ensure the perfect spirit ‘cut’ one has to be slow and meticulous and this is all part of the art and science of creating a remarkable spirit.

Then for the wood, the barrel for maturation, the choice of wood is incredibly important and it is said to influence at least 80% of the taste. There is a huge amount of thought, negotiation, and often slow waiting for the right quality barrels.

Then maturation – Scotch whisky must be matured for at least 3 years, but most are matured for many more. The length of maturation is reflected in the age statement of the whisky, 10 years, 12 years, 18 years etc. Age – and the slowness of maturation is prized in the world of whisky.

Then appreciating the resulting spirit. Appreciation is a ‘slow’ skill and increases with time, reflection and experience. Selecting the vessel, pouring, hand warming the spirit in the vessel, perhaps adding a dash of water to ‘open’ the spirit – all take time and the effort of contemplation and slowness. All of this slow appreciation and ritual enhances appreciation and the pleasure of a fine dram.

Kingdom Scotland has brought this slow influence of the time and patience required to craft and appreciate an extraordinary whisky – crafting a fine and rare spirit – into their perfume creation.

This evokes the idea of slow fragrance. The meticulous art and craft of creating a complex and revealing scent, the patience, the care, and restraint it requires, all takes time.

Slow fragrance is conscious and mindful, close to traditional methods as opposed to our fast and hectic lives. Slow perfumes are conceived, created and appreciated in a different way. They require a sense of intelligence, awareness and contemplation to really enjoy and experience them.

Kingdom Scotland currently has 4 beautifully complex luxury fragrances in the collection. Each telling a compelling story in scent. These complex fragrances are multifaceted, layered in complexity and reveal with time.

We invest a huge amount of research time and creativity in our fragrance ingredients, seeking and working with only the most sustainable, ethical and traceable aromatic ingredients the world has to offer.

Our creative process starts with the natural world. We search for the natural accords in nature and work these into our perfumes. We also mature our fragrances In Scotland, another parallel with our inspiration from the world of whisky, in fact, everything is conceived, created, matured and bottled in Scotland which is quite unique.

The Kingdom Scotland perfumes take over two years of creation. We are currently working on two new fragrances to add to the collection that have been in research, development, maturation for two years already. Excited to reveal these new expressions in 2024.

Slow perfumes are expertly crafted to savour, to appreciate in the slowness of time. The multi-layered complexity will reveal with time on your skin and can be experienced in a different way each day and time our fragrances are worn. This slow perfume creation and appreciation can guide the wearer to delve into their own sense of self and provide a strong connection to our unique scent stories. Such a pleasure to contemplate and delve into. Enjoy!
